Gretchen Barretto: U And Me Against The World

Gretchen Barretto is reportedly all set to host TV5's newest game show titled U And Me Against The World, scheduled to be shown in November.

PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) received information from a reliable source that controversial actress Gretchen Barretto is slated to host a game show at TV5 to be launched this November.

The show will reportedly carry the title U And Me Against The World. Our source described the show as a "fab game show with fab prizes."

Gretchen's credentials when in comes to hosting is limited. Although she used to be part of the long-defunct noontime variety show GMA Supershow during her younger years and for a time graced ABS-CBN's showbiz talk show The Buzz as temporary co-host.

This bit of news confirmed the assumption raised by some people when Tonyboy Cojuangco—Gretchen's longtime partner and father of her daughter Dominique—acquired the network way back in 2003. Some casual observers took note that it would only be a matter of time before Gretchen finds herself with a show of her own. The upcoming game show is also a strong indication that all's well between Gretchen and Tonyboy.

Despite opting to appear sporadically on screen over the past couple of years, 2008 can be considered as a relatively busy year for Gretchen. Last July 19, Gretchen made her television comeback via ABS-CBN's longest running drama anthology, Maalaala Mo Kaya.

February of this year also marked the release of Gretchen's debut album titled Unexpected under Star Records. La Greta recently announced that her second album is currently in the works with January 2009 as its possible release date.

Sunshine Dizon is going full blast with her acting career after taking a three-month break. She just finished shooting Sundo for GMA Films, she has started taping the first of her four episodes on Obra, and she is set to start taping for All About Eve in November.

Marian Rivera 'One True Love'

Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes are currently busy filming One True Love. The film, which also stars Iza Calzado, will be directed by Mac Alejandre. On showbiz rivalries: 'Hindi po ako nakikipagkumpitensiya.'

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera will be working together on their next project for GMA: "Hindi ko naman sasabihin kung ano, e. Basta nakausap na kami tungkol dito."

Marian Rivera and Iza Calzado revealed to PEP that given the chance, they would love to be paired with the following Kapamilya leading men: Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, and John Lloyd Cruz.

Rufa Mae Quinto: "Kapag nag-iisa ako, doon ko naiisip na hindi lang pala ang pang-sariling kasiyahan ang hanap ko kundi pati kasiyahan ng mga tao na nasa paligid ko. Kaya siguro ako nagtatrabaho nang bonggang-bongga ay hindi para sa akin lang."

Katrina Halili on Joross Gamboa: "Bakit po naman hindi ako papayag kung manliligaw si Joross. Wala nga pong nanliligaw sa akin, bakit naman hindi ako papayag? Ayoko rin po namang tumandang dalaga. Pero siyempre, kikilalanin ko po muna siya at titingnan kung magiging matiyaga siya, at kung magiging mahaba ang pasensiya niya sa akin."

Marian Rivera was voted FHM's Sexiest Woman of 2008 which has Angel Locsin's fans in an uproar casting doubts on the results released in this year’s FHM Sexiest Women issue.

Anne Curtis on her three different roles in ABS-CBN's Dyosa: "Sulit! I mean, sobrang nag-e-enjoy ako sa taping ko. Yung bawat character talagang minamahal ko."

Gretchen Barreto: If you think you've heard the last of Greta, well, think again. Two separate incidents that happened in one night put the actress in the news again—one took place in a hotel; the other, at Daboy's wake.

Dark Skin in the Philippines

Skin color is a touchy subject among Filipinos. Those who were born with light skin are grateful that they were, and those born without it wish they had. However, what most people don't realize is that dark 'kayumanggi' skin is becoming more accepted in the entertainment industry and is considered beautiful, more now than ever before.

This Filipina woman from New York is married to an American and has a fair skinned child, and she wrote this article from Newsweek because she is wondering whether she should sign him up with a modeling agency. Her resistance to colonial ideals is admirable, but if we're talking about real life, it's not smart if she doesn't sign her son up, because if her son doesn't get the job, another light-skinned Filipino boy or girl will, so why not take advantage of it? I mean seriously, just be realistic.

But she's not being realistic also in saying that light skin is preferred for Filipino men in fashion, because just look at the latest Bench and other modeling pictures and billboards lately, like Dingdong Dantes' latest Bench billboards, and many other billboards in Metro Manila. For men, having dark skin is actually considered sexy now and more required in the entertainment industry in the Philippines for models.
For women it's also changing, as shown by the latest pictures from Preview Magazine with Ruffa Gutierrez, Gretchen Barreto, Claudine, and Judy Ann Santos on the cover.

I don't think people should be so quick to judge unless they've looked at the latest photos, dark kayumanggi skin is in fact becoming more accepted in the Philippines, and that is a positive thing.

I partly don't like this article because I don't like when Filipinos use the word 'Filipino' as if it were a race to refer to only those of brown-skinned Malay descent, as not all Filipinos have brown skin and wide noses, and not all Filipinos were born economically disadvantaged.
