Lalola Philippines is Amazing

Rhian Ramos stars in Lalola, and is elated about the success of the series. Lalola is currently the #1 rating program in the Philippines, and is a remake of the famous Argentinean telenovela about a man transformed into a woman.

Listen, GMA did a fantastic job on this telenovela. The Philippine version is amazing, they expanded the magic aspect of it to an entire Encantadia-like world, which really reflects Philippine culture and folklore, and I was blown away. Because in the original, it was just a boring fat old fortune teller that Lalo went to for 20 pesos. There was no other world, it was just about Lalo's life and the company. The fortune teller sat on her table, put a curse on Lalo, Lalo went to sleep that night, and woke up a woman the next day.
In the Philippine remake, they expanded the magic to an entire universe upon itself complete with it's own storyline (which if you didn't know wasn't in the original) and that was amazing in itself. There are three sisters, one of them was one of Lalo's conquests. There was a whole storyline of Lalo being seduced by Iza Calzado's character Sera. This never happened in the original. They also added a lot of more family aspects to the Philippine remake, and the relationships between fathers and daughters and stepsons, Facundo has a daughter in the Philippine version, he didn't in the Argentine version. I just feel like they added more heart to the Philippine remake on GMA, they added more kapuso.

They also film it in high-def, and it doesn't look like a telenovela (you know, the same side angles in a dimly light studio which is supposed to be a house), which is good. It looks like a film the way they shot it.

Also, they made Lalo's best friend gay in the Philippine version. He wasn't in the original, he was just a womanizing babaero like Lalo in the Argentine version. And Kempee is so great in his role, the interaction between him and Rhian is actually the best part of the series. There's like an entire friendship aspect of the Philippine version that also comes into play, I just feel like all of the characters were really fleshed out and became more three-dimensional in the Philippine version where as to be completely honest, Lalola the Argentinean version felt like Betty La Fea. In the Philippine version, it's different, the characters are deeper and more realistic. I just hope they don't overextend it.

Rhian also talked to the press about the possibility of joining a beauty pageant, and about how she feels about her Lalola leading man JC de Vera.

What did Rhian have to say about the success of Lalola?

"It's such a big deal kasi for me, to know na people appreciate the show and they watch it and they enjoy it. Like, people come up to me and say, 'I laugh so hard when I watch that show!' And I'm just so grateful."

And what about the talks of Rhian Ramos joining a beauty pageant, is the Filipina actress the next Miss Universe?

"That's something that's being talked about right now. And it's been raised...The conversation has been raised many times. Pero ano...it would be an honor for me, but I don't think na at the moment, right now, I don't think it can be part of the agenda. Kasi parang everything's happening right now and I don't wanna let it go..."

Were there awkward moments between her and JC?

"Siyempre, at first, because he's really quiet. I was surprised kasi about how quiet he was, kasi I've worked with him before, nag-uusap naman kami dati...konti. But I've never realized how quiet he was on set."

And what was their first conversation like?

"I was like, 'You okay?' He's like, 'Ay hindi, ganito lang talaga ako, sorry.' And then, he was very cool. Kapag kinausap mo, mahaba-habang kwentuhan."

Are Rhian and JC close now?

"Well, kasi for me, it takes quite a while to be...intimate is the wrong word... Parang, to share that closeness with someone, it takes a while for me to get to that level. But for now, we're really just taking it easy.

"We didn't really talk about, 'Oy, walang mangyayari, ha,' and 'Hoy, we have to be sweet.' Nothing like that. We're just taking it easy and going natural. I think I like it better that way, na some things remain unsaid and we just go with our instincts."

And how does Rhian rate JC as a leading man?

"Above and beyond my expectations, he's a 9! Kaya 9 dahil no one's perfect. Ayoko naman siyang i-ten. Hindi...Naku, yayabang iyan. He's a 9. Don't tell him."

Lalola, Codename Asero, Survivor Philippines, and Gagambino top the TV Ratings in Mega Manila for Oct. 27-30.

JC de Vera, Rhian Ramos, and Iza Calzado were among the many celebrities at the press conference party for You magazine, which had it's launching yesterday at Warehouse 125 in Makati.

JC de Vera loves Rhian Ramos?

JC de Vera stars with Rhian Ramos in the now #1 rating Lalola, but is there a possibility that JC could be falling in love with Rhian?

"Hindi ko pa iniisip yun. Focus ako sa work ngayon at ganun din si Rhian, pero hindi imposible dahil maganda siya, sweet, malambing at alam kung ano ang gustong gawin. Hindi pa natin alam kung ano ang mangyayari dahil sandali pa lang kaming magkasama. If ever, hindi tao, kundi trabaho ang pipigil na maging kami," said JC to the press.

And what does JC have to say about former love team partner Yasmien Kurdi?

"Ayokong patulan anuman ang lumabas tungkol sa aming dalawa, kung anuman ang sinasabing away daw namin. Actually, alam ko na may mga taong gusto lang manira sa amin at hindi kami maintindihan. Lalola Philippines: Rhian Ramos & JC de Vera

Rhian Ramos and JC de Vera topbill the Filipino version of LaLola, the Argentine TV series of the same name. This romantic-comedy/fantasy-drama will air on GMA-7 starting October 13.

Womanizers beware! GMA-7's gender-bender comedy is out to show what karma has in store for insensitive men who play with other people's feelings. This October, GMA-7 will air the Filipino version of the romantic-comedy/fantasy-drama that will air starting this Monday, October 13.

LaLola, the newest GMA Telebabad program, is an adaptation of the Argentine TV series produced by Dori Media Group. LaLola recently won awards as best comedy, best script, best director, best actor and best actress in the recently concluded 38th Martin Fierro TV Awards, the most prominent awards for Argentine radio and television programs.

After its first broadcast last year in Argentina, LaLola has been sold to more than 60 countries including France, Chile, Italy, Germany, Russia, Mexico, Vietnam, India, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Cyprus, the United States, and now in the Philippines.

GMA-7's newest romantic-comedy/fantasy-drama brings to light situations of executives in a corporate world, particularly the liquor company Distilleria Lobregat. In the original version, the stars worked in the magazine Don.

Kapuso stars Wendell Ramos, Marvin Agustin, Angelika dela Cruz and JC de Vera topbill this TV series together with Rhian Ramos in her first title role as Lola and with the special participation of Ms. Iza Calzado.

With directors Dominic Zapata and Rodolfo Jun Lana at the helm, viewers will laugh at the misfortunes of a womanizer and heartbreaker named Lalo (Wendell Ramos), the president of the brewery Distilleria Lobregant and Manila's most eligible bachelor. He will get a dose of his own medicine when he is turned into a gorgeous woman by his ex-girlfriend's vengeful sister, Sera (Iza Calzado), who happens to be a sorceress.

A kiss from Sera triggers the spell trapping Lalo in a woman's body. Since nobody will believe his transformation, Lalo has no choice but to pass himself off as someone else.

LaLola's funny and hilarious situations as well as heartwarming scenes begin when Lalo enters the company and introduces himself as Lola (Rhian Ramos), his girlfriend.

Although lovely and witty, Lola must battle against all odds to prove herself equal to boys and even endure the same kind of harassment and chauvinism Lalo used to inflict on girls.

As if being locked in a woman's body is not enough, Lalo/Lola will realize as days pass that she is becoming more and more effeminate and even finds himself/herself drawn to the irresistible charms of Facundo (JC De Vera), the vice president for marketing and public relations of Distilleria Lobregant and the complete opposite of Lalo.

Lola's world will be a total riot when she meets the people in Lalo's life--Don Aguirre (Eddie Garcia), the hard-to-please grandfather and tyrannical ruler of Lobregat dynasty; Gaston (Marvin Agustin), Lalo's older, power-hungry half-brother and right man who aims to oust Lalo from his top post at all costs; Pato (Jay R), one of Distilleria Lobregat's top executives.

She will also meet Griselda (Jackielou Blanco), Gaston's manipulative and scheming mom; Sabrina (Angelika dela Cruz), Facundo's ex-girlfriend and Distilleria Lobregat's hottest model; and Gary (Kempee de Leon), Lalo's best friend and flatmate who is secretly in love with him.

Making LaLola even more exciting are Susanna (Eula Valdez), Lalo's real mother who had to leave the Lobregat mansion due to her husband's womanizing and return years later and scheme's Aguirre's downfall by putting up her own distillery; Julia (Lovi Poe), the artistic adopted daughter of Susanna; Billy (Marky Cielo), Lalo's missing half-brother; Tita Iris (Gladys Reyes), Facundo's Aunt; Vicky (Sheena Halili), the inept and clumsy assistant of Sabrina; Matias (Yul Servo), the Lobregat's messenger; and Boogie (Robert Villar), a street kid who will be adopted by Facundo.

Also in LaLola are Melanie Marquez as Garganta, the head sorceress and leader of the Babaylan; Ana Capri as Oreng, Sera's aunt who practices black magic; Jewel Mische as Ada Romina, Lalo's jilted ex-girlfriend who commits suicide; Isabel Granada as Tala Romina, the eldest of among the Romina sisters and with the special participation of Ms. Iza Calzado as Sera Romina, the good sorceress who will resort to black magic to avenge her sister Ada. She will be punished for abusing her magical powers and will be turned from a beautiful woman into the ugly Soledad (Patricia Ysmael), who will make Lola's life hellish.

Will Lalo find the true meaning of love and humility in Lola? Will Lola find a way to get back to her real identity as the president of Distilerria Lobregat? But what if Lola falls in love with Facundo? Will she be able to confess the truth to the man she loves? Will she be able to confess the truth to the man she loves? Will she give up being Lalo just to be Facundo forever?

Gawad Urian 2008 Winners

Gawad Urian 2008: Jason Abalos, Sid Lucero, Cherry Pie Picache, and Emilio Garcia show off the trophies that they received during the 31st Gawad Urian Awards last night, October 1, at the CCP.

Emilio Garcia: "Oo, siyempre, bata ka pa lang, nakikita mo na palaging ang mga batikang aktor, winner ng Urian. So, lahat naman siguro. So, ako, wala na...I'm complete! Kumpleto na ang buhay ko. Okey na ‘ko," says Emilio Garcia about his recent win as Best Supporting Actor for the movie Selda.

Jason Abalos: "'Eto na, ‘eto na ang panaginip ko, nagkatotoo na! Siyempre, natuwa ako noong pangalan ko ang natawag. Siyempre, kumbaga sa school, ito yung medal ng pagiging artista!" beams Jason Abalos after winning the best-actor trophy in last night's Urian Awards for his performance in Endo.

Rhian Ramos: "Masaya ako sa career ko, siguro sa bilis na rin ng takbo ng mga pangyayari. Yung first project ko pa lang, Captain Barbell na. After Barbell, hindi na ako nag-audition sa Lupin, kasi nakita na rin nila yung chemistry namin ni Chard [Richard Gutierrez]. Nung ibinigay yun sa akin, natuwa ako kasi yung naging dating para sa akin, ibig sabihin, nag-i-improve ako sa pag-arte. 'Pag nakakuha ako ng bagong project, siguro sa last project ko, nakapag-improve ako ng konti," says debutante Rhian Ramos.

Alex de Rossi: When asked about her decision to transfer from GMA-7 to ABS-CBN, Alessandra de Rossi replied, "Okay lang naman kasi parang trabaho ang gusto ko, e. Nandito ako, puro trabaho 'yong meron ako. Aarte ka pa ba? Siyempre hindi na."

Marian Rivera-John Lloyd Cruz Movie

Marian Rivera and John Lloyd: "Kasi lumapit sa akin si Mother Lily [Monteverde], offering a project with Marian. Kung ako ang tatanungin, gusto ko na agad gawin 'yan. Pero matagal na process 'yan. Pag-uusapan pa talaga," says John Lloyd Cruz about the possibility of working with Marian Rivera (inset).

JC de Vera, Macho Dancer Shirtless

JC de Vera and Iza Calzado will star in Obra, to debut Sept. 11 at 10pm on GMA. John Carlo de Vera will also star in Lalola with Rhian Ramos. Lalola is the Philippine remake of the hit Argentinean telenovela about a man whose spirit transplants the body of a woman.

Jericho Rosales, Carmen Soo, and Heart Evangelista break-up, Lea Salonga West Side Story

Karylle and Lea Salonga: "Her second visit, pinuntahan niya ako sa dressing room. Binigyan niya ako ng ilang exercises. And then she said, ‘I've known you since you were small.' Patient kasi siya ng daddy [Dr. Modesto Tatlonghari, a denist] ko before," narrates Karylle about Lea Salonga's visits to the rehearsals of West Side Story.

Jericho Rosales on Heart and Carmen: "I must admit that Carmen also helped me to move on. Pero unfair na akusahan siya as the third party involved, kasi wala naman talagang ganoong angle sa amin ni Heart," says Jericho Rosales.

Niña Jose: "Kung magkakaroon kami ng love scenes ni Gerald sa new series, why not? Yung una naming ginawa sa My Girl, gosh, I was so uptight! Siguro naman ngayon, medyo relaxed na ako. Kung kailangang mag-sensuality workshop ako with Gerald, gagawin ko, para maging convincing lang ako sa ganoong mga eksena," says Niña Jose.

Rhian Ramos:"Naku, ganoon naman talaga, di ba? Usually naman kapag may mga blessings, may kasama rin ‘yang intriga. Pero willing naman akong tanggapin yung mga bagay na yun, kasi worth it naman ang blessing, di ba?" says Rhian Ramos.

Jolina Magdangal: "Naniniwala ako na kahit hindi ako magsuot ng wedding gown sa pagpu-promote ng movie namin, panonoorin pa rin ito ng mga tao dahil magugustuhan nila ang makikita nila. Hindi lang ang mga magagandang lugar, kundi ang story rin ng bawat isa sa amin sa pelikula," says Jolina Magdangal, who plays a chambermaid in I.T.A.L.Y.

KC Concepcion wears Richard Gutierrez's necklace

Lucy Torres leads the stars during the launching of TV5 last Thursday night, August 7. Lucy's dance show Shall We Dance is the only program from ABC-5 that will continue airing in TV5.

KC Concepcion is wearing the necklace and bracelet that Richard Gutierrez gave her during their shooting of For The First Time in Santorini, Greece. KC was a special guest at her mom Sharon Cuneta's anniversary concert at Araneta Coliseum last night, August 8.

Sharon Cuneta, 30 years in showbiz celebration, and the man who wrote her first hit song, Rey Valera. The two perform "Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko," another piece from the composer of "Mr. DJ."

Rhian Ramos: "I am really, really happy because nagtiwala si Mr. Sabella sa sa akin even if there are really bad rumors about me. Sinabi naman nila sa akin na what's important is that I can represent the new look of Sabella."

Brent Javier: "They're trying to package me wholesome as an actor. So don't expect me to don swimwear anytime soon or be as daring as my pictorial."
