Kristine Hermosa and Jericho: Classic Moments!

Ngayong Nandito Ka (Now That You're Here) was a hit movie that starred Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales. There are no words to describe how fantastic this movie is and how much it means to me or the Filipino people. This is one of the best Filipino movies ever made in the history of Philippine cinema, and it's what made Kristine and Jericho certified movie stars. The acting is superb, the cinematography, the script, the pacing, the story, the Onemig, everything is in place to perfection. And mind you, I don't say that about any movie, I am the biggest perfectionist, I grew up acting and singing and performing, and I notice all the mistakes and sections with poor acting in a movie (especially in Filipino movies, which usually add up to the millions), and this movie had no mistakes in any area. Every part of it was strong, from beginning to end.
And I know I'm not alone in saying that this movie holds a special place in heart for the rest of my life, and that the millions of other Pinoys who have seen this movie and made Kristine Hermosa the most popular Filipina actress on the face of the earth would agree. I love Marian Rivera and her positive upbeat attitudes on things, and she may be the actress who's hot and new right now at this moment, which is convenient economically for the Filipino entertainment industry and viewing public which usually only has a 5-minute memory reserved only for who's popular at the moment (whenever someone new comes along, whoever was in there before is quickly erased and replaced, and the cycle continues forever), but because of her fantastic acting in such great movies as this, Bcuz of U, and Forevermore, and her great TV shows like Gulong ng Palad, Til Death Do Us Part, and Pangako Say'yo, the series that started the international acclaim for Filipino series and has been shown and dubbed in over 20 countries worldwide, Pangako Sa'yo, reaching top TV ratings in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Eastern Europe, and all over Asia and Africa, Kristine Hermosa will always be my favorite actress of all time and holds a special place in my heart, and I'm sure millions of Filipinos and non-Filipinos who watch her TV shows all around the world dubbed in their local languages would agree with this sentiment, and it's movies like this, and an actress like this that makes me proud to be Filipino. Watch this great scene where Jericho and Kristine sing and dance to "Tayo Ay Mag Sayawan" at the wedding, and afterwards when Rocky (Echo) confesses his love for Gary (Kristine) on the street in front of all the people walking by, it's just amazing:

Kristine Hermosa should be Betty La Fea.
Kristine Hermosa has brought in millions of pesos over the years to ABS-CBN through her hit TV shows and movies, and she is the best actress that has ever come along on that TV network. And if you ask me, this is the perfect time to revive the Kristine Hermosa-Jericho Rosales love team, one of the most beloved love teams in the history of Filipino TV and cinema, with Betty La Fea by casting Jericho Rosales with Kristine Hermosa. And everybody knows as far as acting, Jericho and Kristine are both fantastic and they are more than capable of bringing life to Betty La Fea. And Kristine and Jericho to be reunited, that will be HISTORIC and what millions of fans have been waiting for years and years now since they broke up, and that will 100% for sure draw in HUGE ratings, which ABS-CBN desperately needs right now. And even Kristine has recently said that she doesn't mind working Jericho again, and they're friends now. And let's not forget what a huge TV ratings draw Jericho is (Panday) on his own, and what a huge TV ratings draw Kristine is on her own (Gulong ng Palad) imagine Kristine AND Jericho together in Betty La Fea, that would be HUGE TV RATINGS GUARANTEED.
I feel like ABS-CBN and also GMA7 sometimes like with Zaido, likes to cater only to their youngest target audience (young teenagers 12-16) in their TV shows, but that's ignorant, because they forget that the people who control the TVs in most Filipino homes are the young adults and adults 17-34, and the age 17-34 bracket needs attention the most, and it is this bracket that LOVES Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa still. People in showbiz can be kind of ignorant sometimes in the Philippines, they think that just because a celebrity hasn't appeared on TV for a while, they're no longer relevant and people don't care anymore, BUT THEY'RE WRONG. The celebs people care most about are those in the past, in their childhood and teenage memories, which is why Jolina and Marvin came back to huge TV ratings in "I Love New York" despite being away for years, which is why the Spice Girls were able to come back and earn millions of dollars in their recent tour despite being away for years, and why Gabby Concepcion's upcoming movie is a guaranteed hit, you'll see.

I don't know how long that ridiculous network war has been going on, nor do I care, because I know quality TV and movies from non-quality, and both networks have put out great shows and movies, and both have also put out mediocre shows and movies, so it's an equal playing field, it all depends on the current project and the quality of it, and we here at Filipino Cultured don't take sides in that network war, because it's ridiculous, we Filipinos should be uniting, not dividing.

And Jericho and Kristine are the perfect celebs to hit that 18-34 market right now with Betty La Fea (especially with Betty La Fea because it is the 18-34 year olds that is the most important for this upcoming Betty La Fea remake as they will remember this show the most, the 12-16 age bracket is not the one to hit for Betty La Fea, because they were just little kids when it was shown in the Philippines and were still watching cartoons), and their love team was only a few years ago, geez, it was only 2000-2004, it's not like it was during the 70s, and they're still young. And even if it won't be Jericho, it should at least still be Kristine, and if they don't, it will be to their detriment and they'll continue to get low ratings, just you watch and see, and you'll see that I'm right.

The thing that I'm worried about when ABS-CBN does their casting for this super important show is that they'll remember the funny moments of Betty La Fea, and their impression of how the show should be will be based on their recent memories of watching Ugly Betty, so they might try to cast the role of Betty as comedic, WHICH IT'S NOT. Because if you remember watching the original Betty La Fea, the role of Betty is played straight in a dramatic way. What made the show funny was the genius writing and the situations in the show. That was the art of it, and any experienced TV director SHOULD know that to get comedy out of a situation, the actor/actress has to play it as if they're NOT doing a comedy, play it straight. I hope that this situation does not turn out to be out of miseducation where they'll hire a comedic actress and make the auditions about slapstick comedy (which I have a feeling they are doing because they hired Wenn Deramas, a comedic director, to do this show) rather than a good dramatic actress for this role the way it should be done. I have a bad feeling about how this show is gonna turn out, I hope it doesn't turn out that way and turns out to be good.
By the way, all you Filipino fans who are doing IMDB, you guys left a big hole in Kristine and Diether Ocampo's career, because nobody has listed 2005's "Til Death Do Us Part" in their TV resumes yet, I struggled to remember the name of that series for this article and was frustrated that I couldn't find it at IMDB. And you guys made a mistake, Gulong ng Palad was in 2006, not 2005, because Kristine's series for 2005 was Til Death Do Us Part, the one you guys missed and forgot to list down at their IMDBs. I also remember exactly that that show was in 2005, because that's the show I was watching here in L.A. via satellite when my Tito called me to tell me that my Lola passed away.

Vic Sotto and Rosanna Roces: "Awitin Mo, At Isasayaw Ko"

Classic Moments of Philippine Cinema:
Vic Sotto and Rosanna Roces
sing "Awitin Mo" and do a sexy
hip-gyrating dance
This is a great video clip of one of my favorite moments of all time in the history of Filipino movies that just makes me and I'm sure will make you just so happy on the inside. Philippine cinema legends Rosanna Roces and Vic Sotto sing and dance to "Awitin Mo At Isasayaw Ko" (You sing it and I'll dance to it), a song Vic Sotto wrote with his friend J@ey de Leon during their days in the hit music band VST and Co.

Robin Padilla La Visa Loca

Classic Moments of Philippine Cinema:
Robin Padilla is a taxi driver desperate to get a US visa
This great video clip is from one of the greatest Filipino movies of all time, La Visa Loca, and is undoubtedly Robin Padilla's best performance of his entire acting career in which he should've won an award if he didn't. Robin plays a Filipino driver, desperate to get a US visa. Watch this clip of when he talks to a British TV host doing a show in the Philippines, trying to offer him a "Filipino massage, the best in the world!":
Available Online from Regal Films:
La Visa Loca (2006) for only $19.99!

Here you'll hear this great Tagalog song performed live inside of the movie as part of the story line with a dose of dark humour about the desesperado-ness of Pinoys to get US visas, and it just reflects the lives of so many Filipinos:

Ouija Movie Review

I don't get scared so easily from horror movies just because I love watching them, and I've watched a lot, but this movie Ouija creeped the hell out of me and made my heart jump during some scenes. There are few Filipino horror movies that can do that, since most of them make sobra of the special effects so it becomes repetitive, like Feng Shui which wasn't even scary but other Filipinos were calling it the best horror movie ever made just because of it's box office sales, my goodness, box office sales doesn't ever equal to the artistic craft of a movie, but sometimes Filipinos don't see that. But this one is great, and I recommend it.

Jolina Magdangal and Judy Ann Santos give good performances in this movie, and even though the two of them got top billing for this movie, it was really Iza Calzado's presence that carried this movie into the heights of a quality film. Her portrayal of the soplado but caring actress and the subtleties she portrays in showing compassion and humor at the same time really stuck out. Ruby Rodriguez's performance was also enlightening and added a subtle humor, but not so overt that it ruins the scariness of the movie like they do with other horror movies. She's a good dramatic actress too, people should realize that as well, and Iza is just as good in comedy as in drama too.

And they all look great with their brown hair, every actor in this movie has dyed brown hair, every single actor, hehe, and it looks good and natural, and the blonde highlights in Judy Ann Santos really brings out her looks and makes her look glamourous for a change.
