Marian makes mild thespic waves as Dyesebel

MANILA, Philippines—At the end of the first week of “Dyesebel” on GMA-7, title role player, Marian Rivera, finally made her first appearance as the teen mermaid. Throughout the second week that’s just ended, she firmed up her portrayal, as the new teleserye focused on the developing romantic relationship between Dyesebel and her human lover, Fredo (Dingdong Dantes). As the second week progressed, therefore, we were able to size up Marian’s new TV characterization in greater detail:

Despite espousals to the contrary, it turned out that there really wasn’t that much difference between her depictions of Marimar before and Dyesebel now. Both characters are young, playful and loving, so it really wasn’t that much of a stretch for Marian to portray her new role. Full article.

Marian Rivera plays Dyesebel, the prettiest and most adventurous mermaid who will conquer everything in the name of love. Marian will reprise the well-loved mermaid played in the past by Edna Luna, Vilma Santos, Alma Moreno, Alice Dixson, and Charlene Gonzalez.

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera reunite in Dyesebel after the phenomenal success of Marimar.

As Dyesebel, Marian has to endure staying underwater for long hours. "Medyo nahirapan ako noong una. Yung pagngiti-ngiti, yung pagdilat ng mata, medyo nahirapan ako. Pero habang tumatagal yung taping namin, nasasanay ako. At mas masarap talaga na yung trabaho mo, habang ginagawa mo ay ine-enjoy mo," says Marian.

Dingdong Dantes plays Fredo, a multi-media mogul so full of himself that he doesn't know the meaning of love. But when he got the chance to get a glimpse of Dyesebel's beauty, he hopelessly falls in love with her.

Mylene Dizon is Dyangga, the cruel queen of the sea who will make Dyesebel's life under the sea miserable.

Michelle Madrigal is Berbola, Dyangga's daughter who acts as Dyesebel's friend but actually despises her.

Lotlot de Leon is Banak, Dyesebel's surrogate mother.

Alfred Vargas portrays Erebus, a young merman with royal blood descent who will be secretly in love with Dyesebel.

Marco Alcaraz plays Usaro, Dyangga's assistant and lover who will also be secretly in love with Dyesebel.

Paolo Ballesteros is Bukanding, Dysebel's merman friend whom she will treat as her brother.

Young actor Aljur Abrenica plays Paolo, a fisherman who will fall in love with Sheila Mae (Kris Bernal).

New Kapuso star Hero Angeles is Mark, Paolo's fisherman brother who has a grudge against Fredo's family.

Bianca King plays Betty, a model who has feelings for Fredo. She will make Dyesebel's life miserable when she becomes human.

Luis Alandy is Gildo, a model who will be Fredo's rival.

Comedian Teri Onor is Akirang, the evil sea horse.

Child actress Charlotte Hermoso plays Jelay, Dyesebel's sea-creature friend.

Child actor Filiberto Nepomuceno is Butete, another sea creature who will become Dyesebel's sidekick.

Dingdong and Marian stayed in Coron, Palawan for two weeks to shoot the pilot week. PEP

The telenovela will also star Rufa Mae Quinto, Michelle Madrigal, Alfred Vargas, Paolo Ballesteros, and all star cast who have been preparing for their upcoming roles as mermaids and merman with intense swimming lessons for the past few months.
Dyesebel will air for the next year, until the Philippine remake of Thalia's hit telenovela 'Rosalinda' hits the airwaves, which will tentatively star Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo.
