Marian Rivera Rosalinda Philippines

Ay Amor!
You stay deep inside me
Here's your Rosalinda
To live in your dreams
Ay Amor!
I'm dying
Here's your Rosalinda
That only wants your kisses
Ay Amor! Exclusive!
You heard it here first, Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo have been unofficially attached to star in Rosalinda, the upcoming GMA7 remake of Thalia's famous telenovela. FREE! Download the karaoke of Thalia's theme song Rosalinda. Lyrics here (the words above are my English translation of the chorus)

How did we find this out? Well, besides having 3 cousins working in Filipino showbiz, 2 as actors (our nephew too), and 1 cousin as an advertising exec/director, it's all systems go, and it's going already as of this moment as GMA has started pre-production on the series, and has hired acclaimed composer Tata Betita to produce the opening music. The staff at GMA has listings at IMDB, and updates them regularly, and one of their staff recently posted new ones for Rosalinda and other upcoming TV series for GMA, and the tentative cast is as follows:

(I just want to say hello to all of the staff at GMA who I've been told are reading this blog. Hello there! I was so glad that a blog entry we wrote about giving props to the Filipino dubbers lead to them guest starring on Eat Bulaga, that was so great to see, because those dubbers are really an important part of the Filipino entertainment industry.)

Rosalinda
Directed by

Joyce E. Bernal (in negotiations)

Cast
Marian Rivera ... Rosalinda
Dina Bonnevie ... Soledad
Dennis Trillo ... Fernando José
Bianca King ... Fedra
Jean Garcia ... Valeria
Alfred Vargas ... Alex
Eula Valdez

Dennis Trillo...I was wondering who would or could do it. Although it's not official yet, I can see Dennis Trillo doing Fernando Carrillo's part. Actually, on second thought, I don't really like Dennis Trillo in that part, but then again, I'm not really sure who could do it. They should have Fernando Carrillo himself do it for the Filipino remake, hehe. Hey, that actually would be a good idea, he's been let out of his contract by Telemundo (read our previous posts below), and it could be another Segundo Cernadas thing (Segundo is an Argentine actor that worked with Iza Calzado on Te Amo Maging Sino Ka Man, a Filipino telenovela in 2004), except with Fernando who Filipinos love, since millions lined the streets to see him during his visits in 2000 and 2001. If you see that happening in the future, remember the idea came from this blog, from me!! Hehe. And of course, Marian Rivera fits Rosalinda perfectly, I don't see any other actress who could do that role. And Dina Bonnevie? I love her, she'd make such a great addition to this series. Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo are also tentatively attached to star in Dyesebel, the remake of Vilma Santos' most famous role of her career, and Dingdong Dantes and Karylle have been tentatively attached to star in Captain Barbell meets Darna. Although Karylle's name was added by the GMA staff at IMDB, the role of Darna could also be played by Marian Rivera as hinted in the media. It's all up in the air still. But one thing is for sure, and I'll bet you a million dollars, Rosalinda is Marian Rivera. It makes no sense to cast any other actress right now with her hotness and popularity at this moment, and GMA will cast Marian Rivera, I guarantee it.
I just want to say that I love Thalia's promotion for this telenovela (above), as she was lying in a bed of roses, hopefully GMA will do the same thing with Marian Rivera, that will be a beautiful thing to see, and will for sure garner ratings if they do a large billboard of it all over Metro Manila and EDSA.

Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo attended Ogie Alcasid's birthday party together and are friends. Marian Rivera was born in Madrid, Spain. Her father is Spanish, and the interview with Jessica Soho said that she knows how to speak Spanish, but the way she spoke it in the interview at 3:33

with the incorrect and unmatching masculine noun/feminine adjective "esto es chica" instead of "esto es chico" and "un poquito problemo" instead of "un poquito problema", anybody can tell that Marian Rivera doesn't really speak Spanish, she actually speaks Chabacano, creole Spanish, which is logical since she grew up in Cavite, where her mom's family is from. And the way Jessica Soho says "born in Madrid, Spain", like it gives Marian Rivera some sort of special status, so what if she was born in Madrid, Spain? Does that make her better than other Filipinos? Such uneducated mentalities the way the Filipino media constantly likes to show off her Spanish ancestry (or the ancestry of any Fil-Am, Fil-Aussie, Fil-Brit celeb) as if it makes her special or makes her a better person. Why? Does European/American ancestry or being born or raised outside the Philippines make you a better person, or make you smarter or more beautiful? Unfortunately, many Filipinos subconciously believe that without even realizing, and that's something that needs to be erased. Also, millions of Filipinos have the same Spanish ancestry that Marian Rivera has, her's just happens to be more recent, and of course the reason why Marian Rivera looks like any normal Filipina is because her mom is very Malay looking + father's Spanish blood = Marian's look. Lots of Filipina women have Marian Rivera's looks, like Ruffa Gutierrez or Kristine Hermosa, but their Spanish ancestry is generations back. That's why Spanish (and Chinese) ancestry among Filipinos is often underestimated by many Filipinos, because it has become so transparent among most of our people, people forget that the native Malays/Aeta - our ancestors - had very dark skin, wide noses, and kinky hair, qualities which many of us Filipinos today were born without. And that means something, and it's obvious what that is (a large percentage of non-Malay/Aeta ancestry). And here's just one out of the many slices of proof of that, about how many Filipinos are miseducated about what a mestizo/a REALLY looks like:
She looks like a normal Filipina of today, doesn't she? Most mestizos are NORMAL FILIPINOS, not just those with strong European features like most Filipino celebrities. This is a grand miseducation that is taking place among Filipinos around the world today about our own people's ancestry and history.

But at the end of the day, we're all human. That's our real ancestry.

Also, Marian was born in Spain, Jessica Soho said she was "born as Marian Rivera Gracia." No, she wasn't. Her father's name is Francisco Gracia, so her birth name is "Marian Gracia Rivera", since in Spanish naming customs, the father's surname is before the mother's, and since she was born in Spain, that's what her Spanish birth certificate would say. The Philippines followed the Spanish naming customs for 3 centuries until the Americans colonized it, after which Filipinos started to use the Anglo naming system, which lasts to this day. So she was born "Marian Gracia Rivera" not "Marian Rivera Gracia." My goodness, Jessica Soho, you'd expect a journalist to be more educated about these topics, hehe. My goodness, hehe. I love Marian Rivera, I always did, and I always thought she was a great actress. You can watch the entire Kapuso Mo interview at the bottom of this post.

This topic about the names isn't even taught in Filipino schools, and many Filipinos are clueless about this fact, or are convinced that the naming system we use today is actually the Spanish naming system, when it's not, and are uneducated about the names of their own ancestors and family members in the past, which is sad, because it should be taught in schools and is also reflective of how the education system in the Philippines about our country's history is currently a disgrace and needs further research and improvement. And only then, will the country move forward, through a thorough education about our own country's history and our own people's history. Also, please don't do your research about the Philippines on Wikipedia, that is NOT a real encyclopedia. And have you read the articles on it about the Philippines lately? It's amazing how much incorrect information there is over there. Go to the library, or go to the archives in many Philippine cities and universities such as the University of Santo Tomas.

Rosalinda was the last telenovela that Thalia made before moving to New York City with her husband Tommy Mottola in 2001. She hasn't done a telenovela since, but she did mention the Philippines in her 2005 hit song "Accion y Reaccion", which was so cool that she still remembers the Philippines fondly enough to put it in her lyrics 9 years after her visit to Manila (at 3:23 and 3:38)

Acción y Reacción
yo haciendo canciones, amando la vida
No importa de donde vengas
Tú Bali, Hong Kong, Sante Fe, Filipinas

This is just a tentative cast, it could and probably will change over time as casting continues for the teleserye at GMA studios. Meanwhile, we're going to order the DVD of it online, with a few others, it's only like $20, I bought the Rubi DVD for about $30, I gotta buy the Pasion de Gavilanes (Pasion de Amor) one too, it's $30. But I want to buy Tres Mujeres too, I loved that novela, it's probably $30 cause I saw it for 30 at the DVD store here in L.A. For Japanese series, I got Golden Bowl and Heaven's Coins, my gosh, those were such emotional shows, and Golden Bowl was funny, although it was better in Tagalog on QTV. When is GMA going to release DVDs of their series?

For Filipino fans of novelas living in the States, let me just remind you that all of Telemundo's telenovelas are showed with English Closed Captioning, just select "Closed Captioning CC3" on your TV remote options, and there you go! Sometimes it's on CC1.

Two primetime shows ended last Friday, January 18, while a new afternoon soap opened yesterday, January 21.

GMA-7's horror series, La Vendetta, had its final kill last January 18 with a rousing 33.4 percent rating to grab the second place. That same night, ABS-CBN's soap, Ysabella, starring Judy Ann Santos, made its final bow with 22.6 percent to take the No. 10 slot.

Meanwhile, Kapuso network's newest Sine Novela, Maging Akin Ka Lamang, had its impressive debut yesterday, January 21, by virtue of its 21.5 percent rating to take the No. 2 spot, just behind Daisy Siete's 21.7 percent.

Daisy Siete was also the No. 1 daytime show last Friday with 22.1 percent, with Eat Bulaga! and Wheel of Fortune trailing behind at second and third place.

The Friday primetime race was won again by Marimar with 33.8 percent, followed by the last episode of La Vendetta. Rounding up the Top 5 were Kamandag (28.1 percent), Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara (27.7 percent), and Lastikman (27.6 percent).

Zaido (25.7 percent) slipped to No. 8, behind 24 Oras (27.4 percent) and Coffee Prince (26.6 percent).

Eat Bulaga! once again ruled the Saturday daytime race with 25.5 percent while Manny Pacquiao's Pinoy Records was a far second with 20.7 percent. Cinema FPJ was in third place with 18 percent.

Bitoy's Funniest Videos was the No. 1 Saturday primetime show as it gathered 34.7 percent rating with Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho a close second with 34.4 percent.

As a temporary replacement to Boys Nxt Door, which ended its run last week, GMA-7 opted to show a rerun of Mulawin: The Movie last Sunday, January 20. The move proved to be effective as the GMA Films movie starring Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin grabbed the top spot in the daytime race with 18.3 percent.

Takeshi's Castle took the second spot with 17.7 percent as SOP and Showbiz Central tied at No. 3 with identical 15.5 percent. Completing the Top 5 were The Buzz (11.7 percent) and ASAP '08 (11.2 percent).

The Sunday primetime race was taken by Paolo Bediones's game show, Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok with 27.9 percent, a slim lead to second placer Kap's Amazing Stories which posted a 27.5 percent rating.

Finally, with the absence of La Vendetta and Ysabella in the primetime slot, GMA-7's reality show Kung Ako Ikaw managed to grab the No. 10 position last night, Jan. 21. Marimar, as usual, took the No. 1 spot.

In the daytime race, Wheel of Fortune slipped to No. 7 after its first week whjere it held the second and third spots.
