Vanessa Hudgens' mother is Filipina, and is making Filipinos all around the world super proud of her, and the petite actress told the Boston Herald that she gladly accepted her role as Gabriela in High School Musical 3.“One thing that drew me to it was the fact that the character was ethnic. The leading lady wasn’t the stereotypical American girl, she had a Hispanic background. That in itself brought me into the picture.”
The success of the series also surprised her.
“Little did we know we’d be able to do something that has kind of brought musicals back. I feel like it kind of disappeared for a second. People were neglecting kids in that sense. By being on TV we have gotten to bring it back in a way that is accessible for them.”
