Claudine Barreto Pond's Skin Whitening

Claudine Barreto for Pond's Skin Whitening Cream

We here at Filipino Cultured do not endorse the use of skin whitening creams. In fact, it's very important for Filipinos to be educated about the dangerous health risks involved with using skin whitening creams. If you do use skin whitening creams or soaps, please use only well-known brands (not "peke" or those on the black market), be sure to stay out of the sun, use sunscreen, and use it in moderation, as overuse of creams or soaps with high doses of mercury or hydroquinone can cause silver poisoning which will lead to your death. And be sure that when you wash it off your face, you do not ingest it accidentally, as that will especially lead to silver poisoning. Papaya is not the only ingredient used in papaya soaps, and dermawhite is only a Filipino-invented term used to glamourize skin-whitening products and shield from the miseducated Filipino public what the ingredient really is: hydroquinone, which is a toxic and deadly ingredient when used in high doses, or in small doses over an extended period of time.
