This current turnaround in her career can be credited in part to both Thalia and Angel Locsin, who have unwittingly passed on to her the ‘Marimar’ role of a lifetime.
Angel’s bolting GMA turned network’s attention to Marian, then known as a reserved manang type. Although pretty of face and graduated with a degree in Psychology (De La Salle-Dasmariñas), Marian lacked spunk and vitality. Her sweet ways easily made her ‘boring.’
A little fine-tuning, change in costuming, and introduction to sexy dancing (note that erotic hip-swaying) transformed Marian into an innocent looking vamp overnight. These days, thanks to ‘Marimar,’ she’s in the same league as Ruffa Gutierrez, Rufa Mae Quinto, and Iza Calzado, the female leads in the comedy, Desperadas.
When first cast as one of the Desperadas before her ‘Marimar’ days, people had thought Marian would stick out like a sore thumb in the company of the three more experienced actresses.
Being also the youngest, it would be foolhardy to imagine her as a desperate something. Production insiders claim, however, that Marian held her own against competition, many thanks to the boost in self-confidence inflicted upon her by Marimar’s overwhelming success. -Tempo
